Axis labels overlap near the junction of x-axis and y-axis

Post by huy » Wed Nov 07, 2007 3:05 am

Dear TeeChart Team,

I have a rather small issue only. My Points chart (Points is a steema standard series type, which draws scattered plots) is already drawn correctly, with correct labeling too. But if I use the zoom feature (drag the left mouse button rightwards-downwards) to zoom in to a very small region, such that the new range on the x-axis and y-axis are very small, axis labeling starts to give me some weird result. At the cross of the 2 axes, x-axis label (the smallest x value on the x-axis now) and the y-axis label (the smallest x value on the y-axis now) overlap each other. And there positioning are weired too.

I will be uploading a picture for your reference. I will upload it to your upload page.

Please give me some instruction on how to get rid of the artifact.

Thanks in advance.

Hi huy,

You can try doing something as in the All Features\Welcome !\Axes\First and Last labels example at the features demo, available at TeeChart's program group.

Hope this helps!

I just tried it on your demo project installed together with teechart. It's suffering from the same problem. When we use the mouse to drag downwards-rightwards so many times that the 2 axes have their minimum equal maximum, there will be overlapping label drawings and even worse, axis labels goes beyond axis limits.

I will be uploading the sreenshot of your demo project to the client upload area. The file is named "Labels overlap + overshoot.JPG"

Regards,
Huy

Hi Huy,

Which exact TeeChart version are you using? Are you using the latest version available at the client area? Also, have you tried implementing the solution in the example I suggested?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I am using 1.0.2784.27115, it is just downloaded and installed recently only. This version produces the artifact that is seen in my uploaded screenshot.

Currently I don't allow the user to zoom in too close any more. This is an additional requirement, and by chance, it solves my problem, since the user cannot zoom in too close any more, and that issue won't appear.

Regards,
Huy

Hi Huy,

I'm not able to reproduce the issue here using TeeChart for .NET v3. You may be interested in downloading the fully functional evaluation version here and check if it works fine at your end.

Since our license only entitles us to maintenance release of V2 and beta of V3, we may not immediately consider V3. Perhaps only at a later time or in the next cycle.

Thank you.

Hi huy,

My suggestion to test the fully functional evaluation version of TeeChart for .NET v3 is so that you can check if the problem persists in v3 since I'm not able to reproduce it here. However, I can reproduce it in v2 either so I would appreciate if you told me the exact steps I should follow to reproduce the issue here.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the late reply. Currently I am rather busy so I cannot test this bug against V3 yet. I did give it a try actually, but the installation failed. Probably because I didn't install Tchart to a normal machine, but I installed it to a virtual PC instead (I don't want to change my development environment).

I can describe in detail how to reproduce it in V2 latest maintenance release though. Using any of the demo which has a cursor in it -> use the drag gesture to draw a rectangular shape in the chart and this will make the chart to zoom in closer -> continue to do this indefinitely until you see labels on axes become overlapping on each other -> you will get the behavior as seen in my uploaded file "Labels overlap + overshoot.JPG".

Thank you.

Hi huy,

Thanks for the information. Finally I've been able to reproduce the issue here using v2 and v3. This seems a bug to me and added it (TF02012602) to our defect list to be fixed for future releases.
