bar widths out of control .. ?!

Hey everyone,
I am pretty sure I use version 3 of the .net webcharts. I have this chart now containing two barseries and two lineseries using a common bottom axis and two vertical axes, right and left - barseries left and lineseries right if that matters.
Problem is that with barwidthpercent defined to anything but 100, the bars come out very skinny. If, however, I remove one of the barseries, then some control is regained over the barwidth of the remaining one. Still however, the rightmost bar (or in some cases bars) come out more narrow than the others. Further, barwidthpercents less than 100 certainly don't affect bars in a linear way, the whole width range seems to be squeezed in between 100 and about 80%. Anything below is just a vertical line, more or less.
It is very difficult to see the logic behind this behaviour and I do need the two barseries so, please give me a push someone.
