Charting stacked area series--but different types of xvalues

Post by TestAlways » Wed Apr 28, 2010 3:50 pm

I have data for a person (and potentially their spouse) saving and spending money from various retirement accounts. The accounts can have different number of deposits per year, but charting accumulation for end of year values, and at retirement, works fine. The stacked area series work great here.

In the distribution side, the client and spouse can retire at different times. Also, in distribution the data needs to be charted monthly , it is more obvious when an account may be depleted.

The problem is that users want to see the two charts combined (I do to). And I can do this as long as the client and spouse retire at the same time--but when the retire at different times, because of the number of different data points in accumulation vs distribution, I am not sure how to chart the data.

Any suggestions or thoughts are welcome.

Hi Ed,

For stacked series to work fine you need all series to have same number of points and same X values for all. Given that, my suggestion is to add null values to the series with less data points. You can use several methods for this: AddNull, AdNullXY, AddNullY, SetNull, etc. It may also help here knowing of different options for TreatNulls property. You'll find an example at All Features\Welcome !\Chart Styles\Standard\Area\Area TreatNulls in the new features demo, available at TeeChart's program group.

Hope this helps!
