TeeChart Help Files
TeeChart Help Files
Hi Narcís,
I like to come back to your answer
"At the Docs folder you'll find information on how to install your own runtime help files."
Please note that I'm not familiar with all the help stuff.
I have checked the Docs folder and I'm pretty much confused.
In the download section you offer the TeeChart VCL 2010 HTML Help v2 helpfiles. To install the help you recommend the use of an H2 Help utility such as Helpware's Far tool .
In the Docs folder now I can find TeeChart2010.hlp or TeeChart2010.chm, in the subfolder help source there is a TeeUser9.hlp (also a rtf-sourcefile), according to InfoSources.htm there is an online help and html tutorials (where is the TeeChart PRO menu group?). But nothing about HTML Help v2 helpfiles.
So all in all there is a lot to find and I would like to find a way through. Still I have not found out if the TeeChart VCL 2010 HTML Help v2 helpfiles are necessary or useful. And how to use the proposed Helpware's FAR tool ? It seems again to be a package with a lot of different help files (hlp, chm, hrml, v1, v2 ...). Do I need to study at the university or is there a simple way just to install a program and to use it with included help support?
Thanks in advance for your support anyway.
Uli

Re: TeeChart Help Files
Hi Uli,
Note that Windows doesn't support hlp files from Vista, so you may need to download the WinHlp32.exe manually to open these files:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607
That's why we give also the help in chm format, so they can be opened in the new systems.
The TeeChart VCL 2010 HTML Help v2 helpfiles in the download section are thought for the users who are using the TeeChart that comes with the IDE. If you are a Pro customer, you have access to the Pro binaries, that already include the help files.
Could you please explain us what are you trying to achieve? What exact problem do you have with the help files in the Docs folder in the installation path?

Re: TeeChart Help Files
Hello Yeray,
my wish is pretty simple: I would prefer to put the cursor over a TeeChart component in the IDE editor (now Delphi XE) and press F1. This should bring up the IDE help with the necessary information/help. Now it seems that there is a help included with TeeChart version 8. Not all components are covered by the help and it may be wrong now or not complete.
I hoped that I can install the HTML help v2.0 files, so that I can use them with the IDE. (e.g. Dew Research / MtxVec is also installing its help files that way).
It is quite inefficient to read the chm-file and to search for something.
Best regards
Uli

Re: TeeChart Help Files
Hi Uli,
HTML help v2 files are necessary for that and we don't have them available at the moment. This is something in the wish-list to be considered for inclusion in future releases.

Hello Narcís,
so what are the downloadable HTML help v2.0 files now exactly for? What to do with?
Best regards

Hi Uli,
They are to be used manually, either for evaluation or registered users.

Re: TeeChart Help Files
Hi Uli,
To use help files manually you have to open the help files double-clicking on them as you'd do with any other document.

Re: TeeChart Help Files
Hello Narcís,
I have downloaded the helpfiles in the zip-package:
NamedURLIndex.HxK
TeeChartVCL2010.hxc
TeeChartVCL2010.HxF
TeeChartVCL2010.HxK
TeeChartVCL2010.HxS
TeeChartVCL2010.HxT
TeeChartVCL2010_A.HxK
and
TeeChartVCL2010_F.HxK
None of these files can be opened by a simple double-click. The download section recommends the FAR tool. But this program is quite complex for noobies.
Best regards
Uli

Re: TeeChart Help Files
Hi Uli,
Sorry for the delayed reply. For double-click use you should try with the *.chm file included with the installation. Help 2 files can not be used directly, we are investigating the possibility to create a tool to integrate them into Delphi.

Re: TeeChart Help Files
Hello Uli,
The zipfile containing context sensitive helpfiles for RAD Studio 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and XE, downloadable from the Steema web, now includes an installation utility that will install TeeChart help directly to the IDE. You can find the new download at the same location as the previous one: http://www.steema.us/files/public/teech ... H2Help.zip.

Re: TeeChart Help Files
Hello Marc,
thanks so far for the information.
BUT:
1. I have downloaded and unzipped the package.
2. I have run the installHelpToRADStudioXE.bat utility with error message about sudden stop of TeeGofer_H2reg.exe
3. I have run the installHelpToRADStudioXE.bat utility as admin. It run by opening and closing a window (MSDOS window?), no error message
4. I have opened Delphi XE and tried to get help for TCursorTool (which is not included in the "Standard Teechart V8" help of Delphi XE). I can find the V8 help but not the V10 help. For TCursorTool there is still no help available (as it is e.g. in TeeChart2010.chm)
So there are two questions now: 1. is it necessary to remove the TeeChart V8 help from Delphi XE (it is outdated) before installing the V10 help and how to do it? 2. If the V10 help does not properly install (here on Win7-64) then how to proceed ?
Best regards
Uli

Hello Uli,
Re 1. is it necessary to remove the TeeChart V8 help
No. ... if both helps contain the same topic you are given a choice at F1 time as to which you wish to view.
Re 2. 2. If the V10 help does not properly install (here on Win7-64)
We'll need to check the install on x64 . I'll get back with a reply.

Marc

Re: TeeChart Help Files
Hello Uli,
That should be ok on x64. I see though that Helpware's registration utility is less reliant on dependencies installed in the machine, so in case there's any relation I propose the following:
Please could you try the registration file in this download: http://www.steema.us/files/public/teech ... tH2Reg.zip
Please copy all contents to the same folder as the helpfiles.
There are two batch files:
- H2_RegTeeChart.bat
- H2_UnRegTeeChart.bat
Please unregister first (any partial registration made with your previous attempt) with 'H2_UnRegTeeChart.bat' and then run 'H2_RegTeeChart.bat'.
Sorry to take you through all these steps, when we've proved the working option we'll wrap it into the TeeChart installer for future ease-of-use. The above tested ok for me on Win7-64.
Regards,
Marc
