Installation Problem

I just upgraded from the evaluation version and get the following error when trying to drop the chart control on my form. I'm running VS2010 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64.

Failed to create component 'TChart' The error message follows:
'System.ComponentModel.LicenseException: An instance of type 'Steema.TeeChart.Chart' was being created, and a valid license could not be granted for the type 'Steema.TeeChart.Chart'. Please contact the manufacturer of the component for more information.

Please advise.

This problem indicates that the designtime license was not properly installed in your machine. To check and confirm that you should follow the steps I described here.

The TeeRegV2010 utility solved the problem. Can't say that I'm impressed by your installation routines. Has taken almost 2 hours of work to go from an evaluation copy of the software to a paid copy and I lost the initial configuration of my charts which cost me another hour to re-install.

I'm sorry to hear that. What do you exactly mean with loosing chart configuration?

Meaning that in order to swap out the evaluation version I had to delete the control from the form, remove the Steema evaluation controls from the toolbox, reinstall all the Steema controls into the toolbox from the "production" folder, install the chart control from the toolbox onto the form and then reconfigure the chart control properties. And before I was able to get the chart control to install on the form properly I had to go through the process of finding out about and then downloading and running your TeeRegV2010 program to get the licensing crap straightened out. It was not a pleasant experience.

I'm sorry to hear that but for sorting this out it was not necessary removing the TeeChart objects from your forms. Just installing the desingtime license properly and replacing TeeChart.dll reference in your projects should have been enough.

And how would one know that ahead of time? I saw no instructions on how to convert from an evaluation copy to a registered copy. Once I was done with the install (which failed, by the way, because you still haven't fixed the help file issue on 64bit VS2010 installations) I got a slew of errors when I opened the project. It was only after finding out that even deleting and reinstalling the control didn't solve the problem that I came here for help. I got referred to some old post that mentioned the re-registration program which I downloaded and ran. That still didn't solve the problem because the control in the toolbox still referred to the EVAL directory and so I was just reinstalling the evaluation copy that was expired. Only after I deleted and reinstalled all the Steema controls in the toolbox from the "production" directory did I get a usable charting control. As far as I'm concerned your installation process rates an F-.
