Delphi 2005

I am currently looking at upgrading my copy of Delphi 5 to Delphi 2005 Professional. Are there any compatibility concerns with TeeChart v7 that I should be aware of? I notice you don't list Delphi 2005 as supported. Is that because it's just a superficial update over Delphi 8, or is it not supported at all? Do you plan to support it?

Hello Andrew,

Delphi 2005 comes with good old Teechart 4.04 Standard (only for Win32 apps).

The latest TeeChart v7.01 compiles just fine under D2005 Win32 and D2005 VCL.NET so you can expect TeeChart for Delphi2005 installer shortly.

So, if "I can expect an installer shortly", are there currently instructions for getting it installed in Delphi2005 manually?

They won't work with the official 7.01 version (some changes in units and packages). Only the latest sources (currently under testing by some TeeChart pro-support customers) will compile/install and run without problems under Delphi 2005 W32/VCL.NET. Once we're confident there aren't any big problems with this version, we'll release it to all customers. This should happen soon.

OK, have you got any sort of estimate as to when the latest sources will be generally available? Are we talking days? Weeks? Months?

Hi Andrew
The free v7.02 upgrade for Delphi 2005 is now posted, for customers with source code option.

For non-source code customers, we're preparing the binary installations, hopefully to be ready this week.

Hi Andrew
Lets see if this is possible or not.
If / when Borland releases new Delphi 2005 updates, there are lots of chances that they'll break binary compatibility so the only way to install TeeChart win32 packages and .Net assemblies will be by recompiling the TeeChart source code.

We're evaluating offering just one version of TeeChart VCL, always with source code for all customers, to alleviate the above issue.

ie: It'll not be worth it to create a binary installer, test it, etc, etc if it will get obsolete in few days or weeks when Borland releases a new Delphi upgrade.

This also affects trial / evaluation versions. It'll be a nightmare to create them.

So, basically, you're considering offering the source code (libraries?) to all customers, in order to alleviate the pressure caused when Borland releases updates to Delphi? Sounds fine to me

yes, we're considering to offer just the "Source code" version for the new customers, also still not clear what to do with existing customers...
This will help us with the installation process.., etc..

Your main page displays "TeeChart Pro VCL/CLX version 7.02 for Borland Delphi 2005.Net", though when I go into the customer download area, it's nowhere to be found. Did your webmaster jump the gun?

Also, excuse me if this is a naive question, but I don't use .NET, I use the Delphi 2005 W32 IDE. Will this VCL/CLX installer install what I need?

To access the latest 7.02 sources go to private downloading area, then enter your source code license combination and you'll notice a:

LATEST VERSIONS:
December 2004:
TeeChart Pro v7.02 Full Source Code ( 2.6MB ) (up to Borland Delphi 2005)

link. At the moment 7.02 D2005 compatible installer is available only for source code customer. Binaries installer will be prepared shortly.

The installers for non-source code customers is almost finished and we are working hardly on it, be aware at the customer download area in the coming days.
